Hole

Oil and acrylic on canvas
170cm diameter

Holes is a series that addresses the changing conditions of the observer's own retina, highlighting how vision and temporality are inseparable elements.

Although the idea of covering large round surfaces with a dark circle was initially closer to the representation of blind spots (those black spots in the eye that do not perceive anything), the image of a dark and bright space that was left as a result, reproducing the reflection of the observer himself when walking around the pieces, led to thinking of the surface of the canvas as the possibility of perceiving reality in another way, as a parallel reality to it through a rarefied black mirror effect.

These pieces demand time. They are made in oil with extensive layers of oil, with a small brush to spread the paint carefully over the surface, in a process similar to that of handwriting, where every little bit matters, because it tries to retain a fragment of time, a moment of thought in which ideas are perhaps not the most important thing, but the act of thinking itself.
